— The presidential family distributed gift packages to some 40,000 residents of Davao City on Christmas Day.
Many of them began lining up in front of the Duterte home in Bangkal as early as Monday evening to receive their Christmas gifts from the First Family.
Apart from gift packages, food items, gift certificates and cash were also shared by the Dutertes.
Davao Mayor Sara Duterte said the activity has been a family tradition for decades.
“People really come here for Christmas. This gift-giving started way back in the 1960s when my grandfather was a governor then. What I became more familiar with is the one by my father who started to continue it in1988,” she said.
To make the day merrier, the Dutertes included dance performances and games in their Christmas program.
To ensure peace and order in the venue, the local government deployed about 1,500 police officers.
